Annette M. (Dever) Masterson

Annette Marie (Dever) Masterson, 88, a longtime Malden resident and active St. Joseph’s Parish parishioner, died at her home surrounded by her children on Friday, June 10.
 
Annette was born in Boston on Sept. 20, 1933 to Edward J. and Ethel (Murphy) Dever. She was raised in Dorchester and Allston and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton where she played guard for the school’s basketball team.
 
She married Les Masterson in 1955 and lived in Saugus before settling in Malden in 1964 where she raised her three children, Lee Ann, Nancy and Les.
 
A woman of deep faith, Annette attended daily Mass at St. Joseph’s Parish in Malden. She volunteered in numerous ways at the church, including making the seafood salad sandwiches for the church’s bingo.
 
She was also active in the Malden community and helped numerous neighbors over the years.
 
Annette worked at Jordan Marsh in Malden and Somerville for many years and also worked at Filenes and delivered Avon.
 
She enjoyed playing bingo, rummy and slot machines, watching the Red Sox and taking cruises and bus trips with friends.
 
Annette was a tolerant, soft spoken, classy lady. Even when being cared for by her children and hospice nurses and aides in the last year of her life, she remained polite and good mannered, saying thank you and being appreciative of her care regardless of the pain she felt.
 
Annette is survived by her children, Lee Ann Hatch of Stoneham, Nancy Days and her husband, Chris of Wilmington, and Les G. Masterson and his wife, Danielle of North Reading; five grandchildren, David, Brian and Lauren Hatch, Alicia Parks and Andrew Days; one great-grandchild, Beckett Parks, her brother-in-law, Matt Masterson and her sister-in-law, Madeline Dever.
 
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother, Edward J. Dever Jr., son-in-law, Timothy Hatch and her in-laws, George and Gertrude Masterson.
 
A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 16 at St. Joseph’s Parish, 770 Salem St., Malden. Visiting hours from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at Carroll Funeral Home, 721 Salem St., Malden. Interment will be at a later time.
