APICELLA, Joseph R., "Joe" at 87 years of age. Beloved husband to the late Josephine Apicella of Saugus, died peacefully at his family home on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
Born in Malden, he was the son of the late Louis and Antoinette (Itrato) Apicella. He lived in Malden in his youth and then enlisted in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Apicella worked for his fathers clothing factory business as a cutting room manager making children's clothes. He then started his own factory making clothing, heat packs, vacuum bags, tote bags and ink screen printing. Soon after he purchased more commercial property and opened a variety convenience store, a video store and a sub shop. He also rented to retail businesses.
Mr. Apicella was a very hard worker until his early eighties. Then his wife fell ill and he took care of her until her death.
He is survived by his two brothers, Frank Apicella and wife Deborah Apicella and Anthony Apicella and wife Ruth Apicella. His youngest brother deceased James Apicella. His four children Louis Apicella of New Hampshire, Steven Apicella of New Hampshire, Joseph Apicella of Nevada and Sherry Apicella Smith and her husband Donald Smith of Peabody. Three grandchildren Gina Adiletto Ferri of Wakefield, Nicholas Adiletto of Peabody and Nathan Apicella of New Hampshire. Two great-grandchildren Arianna and Jake Ferri of Wakefield. His nieces and nephews Lisa Apicella O'neill, Frank Jr. Apicella, Louis Apicella and Juliette Apicella.
Family and friends are kindly invited to Visiting Hours in the Carroll Funeral Home, 721 Salem St. (Maplewood Square) Malden on Friday, February 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Services will conclude with interment at Riverside Cemetery in Saugus, MA The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association at the address and link listed below.
